B.        Director Emeritus, Safety Center, 2006-present.  Responsible for developing and implementing grant and other funding activities with federal, state, and local agencies and various companies in regard to preventing injuries and worksite health promotion.  Most recently was involved with two major grants with the Illinois Department of Transportation (over $650,000) and ongoing research gathering and injury control programming with two local industries and in Western and Eastern Europe.   Was involved in implementing strategy plan, implementing fund raising plan, developing long term goals and activities, and meeting with active advisory board.

1.         Chair, Department of Health Education, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 1988 - 1993.  Fiscal officer for all departmental accounts and all external grants (during 1992 - 1993, $634,000).  Responsible for an comprehensive undergraduate program in school health education and community health education (70 students), a Master's degree program in health education (65 students), and a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in health education (55 students).  Oversaw 10 full time faculty, 3 office staff, 7 project personnel, and 17 graduate assistants.  Responsible for all other administrative functions (budget, personnel, etc.) commonly found in a comprehensive university health education department.

f.  Worked out details of the translation into German and Russian of a home safety questionnaire.  Data was collected in the United States during 1996, was collected in Russia in February 1997 and in Germany in February 1997.

 

Cooperated with the International Section for Research on Prevention of Occupational Risks, Paris, France on developing an international inventory of ongoing research projects on occupational risk prevention and the improvement of working conditions throughout the world, October 1996 - February 1997.

Ritzel since 1999 has been his development and release of the first online driver education listserv (DE-L) in the world.  Starting out small on 1 March 1999, it has grown into a widely used resource for driver and traffic safety education professionals in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.  It was recently recognized by the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association as the most significant technology contribution developed in driver education during the 1990s.
